James Marter issued a statement today to Congresswoman Lauren Underwood’s Campaign’s in response to recent comments in the local press.
Responding with comments to Marter’s announcement of running against Underwood in Illinois’ 14th Congressional District, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood said, “The people … deserve leadership that reflects their values and is connected to reality, and James Marter is not that person.”
According to Marter, “Congresswoman Underwood is confused. The reality is she thinks everyone in her district approves of her record, but in fact it’s just the opposite. She assumes no one cares about her refusing to denounce the anti-Semitic comments of her colleagues and mentors, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib. In fact, both Democrats and Republicans care. The Jewish Community of Illinois cares. Holocaust Survivors who live in Illinois care. Her silence speaks louder. I won’t be silent, and I haven’t been”.
“Congresswoman Underwood talks a lot about her middle-class tax cuts, but we are not seeing it or feeling it in Illinois. Does she believe the people of this district agree with the current Administration’s Afghanistan policy, or the policies disrupting our supply chain and harming our small business community? The reality that Lauren Underwood needs to come to grips with, is that the people she swore to represent are tired of her putting her party’s agenda over people and continuing to lie instead of listen. I look forward to debates with Congresswoman Underwood,” said Marter. “Ones based on reality.”
